About Us

Once upon a time in the quaint town of George, Western Cape, South Africa, there lived a man named Deon Ungerer who had a knack for turning life’s lemons into, well, a rather peculiar yet magical healthy drink. Battling stomach cancer, Deon decided he needed more than just sheer willpower to get back on the golf course—his second love, next to concocting strange potions. So, in his humble kitchen, he brewed up a special elixir, using ingredients like Aloe Ferox from his family farm, liquids from his pantry, and perhaps a little sprinkle of hope.

He bottled this concoction in any old bottles he could find—pickle jars, soda bottles, even an old vase or two—and stored them in his fridge. After diligently drinking his homemade brew, Deon noticed not only was his stomach feeling better, but he was also back to swinging his golf clubs without the nagging pain of gout. Elated, Deon started sharing his potion with his golf buddies, because what are friends for if not to share weird homemade remedies?

Deon, being the generous soul he was, gave away more of his concoction than he sold. His friends, equally impressed and pain-free, spread the word about this magical drink that seemed to fix everything. Among his friends was Marc Coppin, the owner of Golden Harvest, a local supermarket. Marc found the concoction worked wonders for his gout and saw potential for a business opportunity. He proposed to Deon that they sell the potion at Golden Harvest.

“Why not?” Deon thought, deciding his magical potion needed a magical name. He christened it “Jigsimur,” a name that was as quirky and unique as the drink itself. Jigsimur flew off the shelves like hotcakes—or rather, sweet cakes—at Golden Harvest. Golden Harvest soon expanded its reach across South Africa, and naturally, Jigsimur’s popularity soared. The demand grew so intense that Deon’s kitchen operation was bursting at the seams. It was time for an upgrade. Deon packed up and moved to the bustling city of Cape Town in search of a bottling contractor.

Fate led him to a soft drink producer. This was a mistake Deon soon realised. Deon noticed that the quality of his beloved Jigsimur was slipping. Not one to compromise, Deon decided to part ways with them and found a new bottling company that gave him all the equipment he needed to take matters into his own hands.

By 1998, Deon was back in control, brewing Jigsimur with the precision and care only he could provide. His operation thrived in Klapmuts, Western Cape, and soon after, love was in the air. In 2012, Deon married the lovely Rouxnel Liebenberg, and together they moved Jigsimur
production to Rouxnel’s factory premises in Strand, Western Cape.

And there, amid the hum of bottling machines and the buzz of success, Jigsimur continues to flourish. From a modest kitchen remedy to a beloved healthy drink, Deon’s creation has touched countless lives, proving that with a bit of ingenuity, generosity, and a whole lot of heart, anything is possible.
